A bust of the dictator appeared on May 4 next to a bust of Lenin near the local history museum in the village of Kaduy at the initiative of the Communist Party, the local branch of the party reported. At the same time, the communists noted the "certain civic courage" of the head of the Kaduy district, Svetlana Gracheva, a member of the ruling party, "who, despite being a member of the ruling party, did not follow the example of some of her colleagues and did not obstruct the initiators of the installation of the bust of I.V. Stalin."
The first monument to Stalin in the Vologda region was unveiled in the regional center in December 2024 on the territory of the house-museum "Vologda Exile." Before the unveiling of the monument to Stalin, Governor Georgy Filimonov laid flowers at the monument to the victims of political repression.
Residents collected nearly 3,000 signatures against its installation, but the authorities decided they were not obliged to coordinate this with the people. At the same time, the installation of the monument was explained as a "demand" from society.
Governor Georgy Filimonov, who took office in the Vologda region in October 2023, is known for his admiration for Joseph Stalin. In the office of the regional head hangs a painting depicting the dictator shaking his hand.
