In Primorye, a student was detained on charges of 'treason'

2025.05.06

The FSB claims that he was collecting and transmitting information about the region's critical transport infrastructure for monetary reward

FSB officers detained a student in the Primorsky Krai suspected of 'state treason', reported the Primorye anti-terrorism commission.

According to law enforcement, the detainee 'acted deliberately for enrichment', collecting and transmitting information on the region's critical transport infrastructure and law enforcement facilities on the instructions of a representative of the GUR of Ukraine.

As stated in the official channel of the regional government, the young man maintained 'contact with the Nazis' through a messenger on a social network, where he also received instructions and 'security' schemes. 'The schemes did not work', added the anti-terrorism commission.

The court sent the resident of Primorye to a pre-trial detention center.

Since 1997, when the current Criminal Code of the Russian Federation came into force, until the end of 2024, at least 1000 people have become involved in cases of 'treason', 'confidential cooperation' with a foreign state, and 'espionage', calculated the human rights project 'First Department'*. Of these, 792 were prosecuted after the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine, and 359 people received real sentences last year.

* Recognized as a 'foreign agent' in Russia.
