The drone attack in Saransk was reported early in the morning by the head of Mordovia, Artem Zdunov. The republic's operational headquarters issued a warning about the "prohibition of disseminating information about the consequences of UAV use and terrorist-related crimes." No further information was provided by the authorities. According to Ukrainian media citing military sources, a fiber optic plant in Saransk was attacked, causing a fire. The Ukrainian Telegram channel Exilenova+ reported a drone attack on two Saransk plants — "Fiber Optic Systems" and "Saranskkabel," which produce fiber optics for the defense industry. Damage at the "Fiber Optic Systems" enterprise was also reported by ASTRA*, which analyzed videos and photos from local residents.
The Saransk administration, without specifying reasons, announced the cancellation of classes in kindergartens, schools, colleges, and universities, and asked local residents to "remain calm." Additionally, public transport routes in the city were altered, and traffic was blocked on several streets.
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin also reported, without details, that air defense forces repelled an attack by nine drones overnight. Meanwhile, UNIAN clarifies that the military airfield Kubinka, where MiG-29 and Su-27 fighters are based, was attacked. The attack on the Kubinka airfield, where the aerobatic teams "Russian Knights" and "Swifts" are based, was also reported by the Russian pro-military Telegram channel Fighterbomber. According to its author, the Armed Forces of Ukraine "are trying to spoil our parade and are striking at the locations of personnel and equipment — parade participants."
According to Ukrainian sources, the Shaykovka airfield in the Kaluga region was also attacked. They provide satellite images from NASA, which recorded fires there.
In the Tula region, a Rostec enterprise producing BM-21 "Grad," BM-30 "Smerch," "Tornado," and ammunition for TOS-1A "Solntsepek" was hit, UNIAN claims. The governor of the Tula region, Dmitry Milyaev, wrote that the region faced a "UAV threat" all night. According to him, air defense systems repelled at least four attacks by Ukrainian drones, but he did not mention the consequences. Local residents posted videos showing smoke in the area of two Rostec enterprises.
Due to drone attacks, at least ten airports suspended operations, and airlines are warning of flight cancellations. Russia's largest carriers have made statements that they are trying to "stabilize the situation," but for now, the situation remains unchanged.
The service Downdetector records disruptions in the operations of MTS, "Beeline," T2, and other telecom operators. A large number of complaints are coming from Moscow and the Moscow region. Interruptions also occurred in the Yaroslavl, Tula, Kaluga, and Tver regions, Mordovia, and St. Petersburg. According to Baza, mobile internet was shut down in more than 30 regions of Russia due to the threat of drone attacks.
