The prosecution requested six years in prison for a former police officer from the Leningrad region for 'justifying terrorism'

2025.09.02

The basis for the prosecution was two comments in the telegram channel 'Not TV', in April a resident of Cherepovets was convicted for comments in this channel

During the debates in the 1st Western District Military Court, the prosecution requested six years in a general regime colony for a 53-year-old resident of the Leningrad region, former police officer Anton Zaretsky, for two episodes under the article on calls for terrorism, 'Mediazona'* found out.

According to the prosecution, on July 24, 2024, in the telegram channel 'Not TV' under the post 'A car of a GRU Ministry of Defense officer was blown up in Moscow', Zaretsky wrote: 'Feet are nothing, they will definitely find prosthetics for him. But the wife's face is cooler than his paws. Her disfigured face will be an eternal reproach to him.'

A month later, under the news about a Ukrainian drone hitting a multi-story building in Engels, the man left a comment: 'The airfield in Engels has long needed to be erased, and it's just a pity to spend on this unfinished building.'

Both of these comments can still be found under the posts.

An expert found 'linguistic signs of justifying terrorism' in Zaretsky's statements. The case materials include testimonies from two witnesses who did not appear in court, who discovered the comments—they considered Zaretsky's words inappropriate and outrageous.

The man was detained in March 2025 and sent to a pre-trial detention center. Before his arrest, the man worked as an electrician, previously worked in the police.

Zaretsky pleaded guilty. He cited the news of the death of relatives in Ukraine as the reason for his actions.

On August 29, for comments calling for the execution of Russian officials in the same channel 'Not TV', a 43-year-old painter from Cherepovets, Dmitry Orlov, was sentenced to three years in a general regime colony. He explained his words by the grief over the death of his grandmother from a shell explosion in the Kharkiv region in 2023.
