A new criminal case of large-scale fraud has been initiated against the convicted former minister Mikhail Abyzov, the Tverskoy District Court of Moscow granted the investigation's request for his arrest for two months under this article, reported RBC.

Abyzov is in the "Kremlin Central" — a special block of Detention Center-1 "Matrosskaya Tishina". The reason for the new case against him is unknown.

From 2012 to 2018, Abyzov held the position of Minister for Open Government Affairs. Since the spring of 2019, he has been in detention, and in October 2020, 32.5 billion rubles were confiscated from him in favor of the state.

In December 2023, the Preobrazhensky District Court of Moscow sentenced him to 12 years in a strict regime colony and a fine of 80 million rubles on charges of creating a criminal community and fraud.

According to the investigation, the former official, together with accomplices, deceived the shareholders of the "Siberian Energy Company" and JSC "Regional Electric Networks" of 4 billion rubles and transferred the money abroad. Along with Abyzov, 11 more people were convicted.
